Minutes
March 5th, 2025

Roger Willeford presiding, called the meeting to order with a ring of the bell at 9:30AM.
34 members were in attendance today.

The meeting was led with the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of America, the National Anthem.

Invocation: Richard Johnson, mentioning thanks to the Truck on Ice team, and the children.

Today the Truck on Ice ticket raffle occurred!  Representatives from the bank, the newspaper and others to verify the results were official and maintained state lottery standards were present.

Committee director John Janes oversaw, with Vice President Richard Johnson drawing the winners.  Fifteen names and two alternates were drawn.
President Roger Willeford announced the first name.

Congratulations to the $3,000 Grand Prize winner,
Susan Hornig, of Janesville.
The four $250 Second Prize winners were announced:
Francine Ludtke of Beloit,
Carolyn Schultz of Janesville,
Beth McNamara of Janesville, and
Isaac McCready in Montana.
Then followed the ten $100 third prize winners:
Dick Fahning in Arizona,
Kathy Miller of Janesville,
Larry Burdette of Janesville,
Zach Leavers of Janesville,
Pat Pierce of Burlington,
Tonee Mosher of Janesville,
Lisa Engstrom of Janesville,
Doug Moore of Janesville,
Liz Keenen of Janesville, and
Mark Langdok of Janesville.
Kiwanis would like to thank all players in this event that benefits children.

Roger Willeford thanks the greeters Tom Neumann and Bruce Jorenby, invocator Richard Johnson, server Maury Frey and all of the members of the Truck on Ice team.

Member Health: Linda Bontly had a status update on Dave Peterson, who is having heart surgery at Mercy tomorrow.

Bruce Jorenby, Gregg Dickinson, and Ryan Lewis have birthdays this month, and a song was sung.

Other Announcements: Steve Skelly made mention there are 5-6 Irish dancers lined up for the St. Patrick’s dinner.
Tom Neumann announced new members and old alike can order shirts.  We are trying to meet minimum order requirements, which means twelve.
Luci Cramer announced the Whitewater Kiwanis are having a pancake breakfast Saturday, from 7-11AM.  It is free(!).  A $7 donation is appreciated.  The location is 146 W North St, the Whitewater Armory.  The Cramers will be attending and hope to see you there.

Jim Farrell introduced the day’s speaker, Kristin Vander Kooi.  Kristin is the Rock County Finance Director.  She was previously employed ten years by Sun Prairie city, and became Finance Director there around year 2019.
Kristin had a hand-out for members, and provided detail into Rock County’s finances.  She answered some member questions, including: that our Rock County funds are banked in many different locations, that our county credit rating is (to her best recollection) AA1 (which is quite high), and that Baker Tilly Virchow Krause is the county’s independent auditor.

Jim Farrell thanked Kristin Vander Kooi for speaking and presented her with a Kiwanis Parker pen.

Roger Willeford adjourned the meeting with a ring of the bell at 10:47AM.
