Jim Farrell introduced the day’s speaker, Duane Jorgenson, Highway Commissioner of the Department of Public Works for Rock County. Duane oversees many transportation projects in our area, including several villages’ roads, on up to work on the interstate. His area of expertise includes 96 staff, around 35,000 federally regulated signage, and 2,640 lane-miles.
Duane shared a great deal of information about the county’s goals for bridge construction, renegotiating federal contracts (our county is one of the lowest paid for servicing federal contracts, only receiving 37% of the average), and maintaining its fleet of 700+ pieces of large equipment. Videos were shared with recent accidents on county highways and the interstate that included plow drivers. The presentation was well received.
Jim Farrell thanked Duane Jorgenson for speaking and presented him with a Kiwanis coffee mug.
Roger Willeford adjourned the meeting with a ring of the bell at 11:02AM.
Reminders: There is an executive board meeting next week. Minutes by Ryan Lewis.
