Blackhawk Golden ‘K’ General Meeting
Minutes
February 5th, 2025
Roger Willeford presiding, called the meeting to order with a ring of the bell at 9:30AM.
30 members were in attendance today.
The meeting was led with the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of America, the National Anthem.
Invocation: Richard Johnson, short and sweet, mentioning the children.
Raffle: Ryan Lewis oversaw the ticket sales and drawing this week.
The weekly pot was $10 and the big (Joker) pot was $35.
Jerry Langdok drew a ticket from the bucket, ticket number 7225. Congratulations to the winner, Steve Skelly.
The deck of cards has 50/53 cards remaining. Steve drew the A♣.
Roger Willeford thanks greeters John Janes and Dick Hay?, Richard Johnson, rafflemaster Ryan Lewis and server Linda Bontly.
Happy Box: Tom Neumann announced he is happy because he is back from his cruise, and that we have a new member coming, Jenny Turco.
Roger Willeford announced he is happy because he is back from his vacation to Aruba.
Luci Cramer announced she is happy because she is back from her vacation to visit family in Minneapolis.
Steve Skelly announced he is happy because he won the raffle, and that he will donate his winnings to the Truck on Ice.
Roger Willeford announces a guest is in attendance today, Jenny Turco.
Jokes: Steve Skelly had a good joke about a doctor offering a new patient the results of testing, with “the good news or the bad news first?” “The good news is that they’ll name a new disease after you.”
Member Health: Maury Frey had a status update on Glenn Disrude, saying he is recovering well and may be gone for a month.
Ray Szczepaniak, Nancy Tarco and Bob Knudson has birthdays this month, and a song was sung.
Other Announcements: Steve Skelly spoke upon the Buddy Bench project. Communications with a school are taking place, and a large grant is being pursued via Rotary.
Committee Reports: John Janes announced a big ‘thank you’ to all Truck on Ice table sales participants. Another $1,600 was brought in, for kids.
Gregg Dickinson introduced the day’s speaker, Justin Makowan. Born in Chicago, Justin grew up in the small town of Mauston. He retains those small town values in his current role of Business Development Manager at BrightStar Home Care Medical Staffing.
BrightStar offers personalized care with caregivers that are fitted to a given household’s needs. They currently employ over 70 caregivers. Many options are available, including support when a standard caregiver is unavailable, to ten hours weekly, to forty or more. Other arrangements include live-in staffing, and dimensia/memory care. BrightStar is a privately funded company with support for anyone in need.
Gregg Dickinson thanked Justin Makowan for speaking and presented him with a Kiwanis Parker pen.
