Gregg Dickinson introduced the day’s speaker, Lisa Hurda, Director of United Way (Blackhawk Region, UWBR).  The organization covers all of Rock County, and Northern parts of Winnebago County (Illinois) after the two merged in 2012.
Lisa is an educator by trade, now with 20+ years in non-profit service.  Her passions include traveling, reading, and pickleball.  She has a Master’s in Education, and has been President and CEO on the Janesville School Board.
Lisa spoke upon various topics, including individuals and families that fall under the category United Way term, “ALICE.”  It stands for “Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed.”  They are people who earn more than the federal poverty level, and less than the cost of living.
United Way has a nationwide phone line, 2-1-1, a completely confidential way for people without local resources (immediately, for some).
She covered many other topics concerning the United Way and the presentation was informative.

Gregg Dickinson thanked Lisa for speaking and presented her with a Kiwanis Parker pen.

Roger Willeford adjourned the meeting with a ring of the bell at 10:57AM.
