Blackhawk Golden ‘K’ General Meeting
Minutes
December 11th, 2024
Bob Wilcox presiding, called the meeting to order with a ring of the bell.
The meeting lead off with the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of America, the National Anthem.
Invocation: Carl Cramer, with thanks for the recent festival events, and the children.
Raffle: John Janes oversaw the ticket sales and drawing this week.
The weekly pot was $12 and the big (Joker) pot was $534.
Maury Frey drew a ticket from the bucket, ticket number 2840. Congratulations to the winner, Jerry Langdok.
The deck of cards has 16/53 cards remaining. Jerry drew the 7♦.
Bob Wilcox thanks greeters Bob Knudson and Steve Skelly, invocator Carl Cramer, raffle master John Janes and server Glenn Disrude.
Happy Box: Lonni Coppernoll’s wife sent a large donation in the spirit of Christmas.
Luci Cramer was happy about the interclub visit to Beloit on Tuesday.
Jokes: Ryan Lewis had a good joke.
Other Announcements: John Janes announced a blood drive at St. Paul’s, December 30th, from 1-6PM, and December 31st, from 10-3PM.
Linda Bontly passed the Christmas party sign-up sheet (at the Elks’).
Committee Reports: John Janes announced Mac’s Pizza sent a generous Truck on Ice sponsorship/donation.
John presented on Truck on Ice’s history, including slides with members’ involvement back to 2003, when there existed 26” of ice on the Traxler Park lagoon.
Luci Cramer spoke upon Kiwanis’ history, prior to the day’s speakers, five students from the Janesville Business Academy. They are a group that is currently comprised of 26~27 members, who meet mornings 7:45-9:15AM, as a high school course. Each student has a mentor who is a member of our community’s businesses.
The students’ interests are varied: One is involved with helping a swim instruction business at the Janesville Athletic Club and is utilizing AI (Streamline Swim). One student is involved with nursing, another is assisting BID (Building Industry Downtown. A student is interested in dental hygiene.
From left to right, each have post high school plans: UW La Crosse for marketing / physiology, Blackhawk Technical College for dental hygienist then working in Janesville, a four month aesthetician education (skin and etc. care), UW Carroll for nursing / anesthesia, Environmental Science, and UW La Crosse for a minor in business and major in radiology.
All present are community service-involved (e. g. ECHO), many clubs, athletics, the fair, leadership programs DECA, investments (club) and other interests.
They are well prepared for the future.
The students were asked many questions, and then shared some questions for Kiwanians. They were thanked for their time, and each were presented with a Kiwanis Parker pen.
Bob Wilcox adjourned the meeting with a ring of the bell at 11AM.
