General Meeting
Minutes
September 18th, 2024
The meeting was called to order with a ring of the bell.
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited, and singing of the National Anthem occurred.
Invocation: Carl Cramer, mentioning the children.
Raffle: Ray Szczepaniak oversaw the ticket sales and drawing this week.
The weekly pot was $13 and the big (Joker) pot was $364.
Guest Steve Skelly drew a ticket from the bucket, ticket number 1945.
Congratulations to the winner, Ray Szczepaniak.
The deck of cards has 28/53 cards remaining. Ray drew the K♥.
Two guests were present today. One was Steve Skelly.
Jokes: Carl Cramer had a joke about a 75-year-old taking an 85-year-old friend golfing. The 75-year-old couldn’t see where the ball landed. The 85-year-old could see it, and forgot.
Happy Box: Ray Szczepaniak donated his raffle winnings to Maury for the Alzheimer’s Walk.
Maury Frey was happy to announce the Alzheimer’s Walk earned $2,100, which was doubled by an anon. donor!
Other Announcements: Tom Neumann thanked members for donating time at the Senior Fair, at which we found two new members.
John Janes was happy to announce we now have $1,600 in donations for Truck on Ice sponsorship.
John Janes announced a blood drive for October 14/15th. The hotter weather in the South are causing people to donate less.
Greg Turco encouraged people to purchased tokens now for discounted table fees, prior to the rate rise come October.
John Janes thanked Dave Thill, and all members of the Kiwanis Park watering volunteers. We may dig it up and redo it next year.
Ron Shuler introduced the day’s speaker, Mike O’Connor. Mike is a war historian, with an interest in Ace fighter pilots and other military aviation. Aces are pilots who have shot down five or more aircraft with confirmation. In World War I, there were two ‘Badger’ Aces, Frederic Lord and Rodney Williams. Mike wrote a book about Dick (Richard Ira) Bong, the top ace of all time, a man from Wisconsin with 40 confirmed ‘kills. The book was titled, “Ace of Aces” (1985). He wrote another about Wisconsin aces from 1917-1972, “Badger Aces.”
